organizational mayhem

I'm organized in my work. I know exactly where things are and what they mean...I have supreme mental organization. Unfortunately, this does not carry over to my desk. It amazes me that I'm able to keep everything straight, when i live in a world of ever multiplying piles. The piles used to have purpose, now they're rather vague. There's the "daily pile" (a few papers placed directly in front of my computer when i leave...aka, the "first thing i see everyday" pile), the "kinda important" pile (consisting of things that need to be done, but no pressure), the "I should read this" pile; the "I could read this, but don't have to" pile, and about 5 miscellaneous piles. I used to think computers would help this, but it really doesn't. On my computer I have the same thing...only in folders. SOOOOO many folders. It's amazing. I started thinking about this today as I cranked up the 'ol blog. This blog is my little land of organizational bliss. Even if I tried, I couldn't disorganize it. Plus, it's just so darn simple. Thoughts listed in chronological order, with a few neatly organized links and publications on the side. BRILLIANT (think Guinness commercial on that one). I'm really gonna try to be an organizational wizard in a more tangible way when i start my new job though. I think it's time to simplify things as much as possible. We'll see how that goes.
